The Devil Made me Do It
Ah, the Saturday morning ritual: me, the dogs, a quiet house, and the first cup of tea of the day. I did answer one business e-mail that was marked urgent, but other than that I’ll blog , drink hot beverage, and let out that breath that always seems just between my shoulder blades, and just under my ribs, like the whole top of me let’s go. One of my goals, lately, has been to figure out what makes me relax. If I’m gonna work this hard, then I need to play just as hard, and more often. But how to… Read More

A Taste for Something New
For some reason I’ve been listening to harder and harder music. It started at the end of SKIN TRADE, but it hasn’t stopped. I haven’t gone back to my usual taste in songs. Drowning Pool saved my life at the end of this last book, because I listened to it continously. Thanks to Daven for suggesting it. Jon has gleefully gone through his harder rock collection and given me a bag of albums to try. Right now, Iced Earth is playing, which Daven also recommended. But this album is a live album, and I find that I’m not terribly fond… Read More

More about the weekend
More about the weekend: I’d met Jennie Breeden at a couple of conventions. Yes, of Devil’s Panties fame. We’d gotten to talk just enough to know we’d like to be able to talk at more length, well, we got that chance this weekend. It also happened to be her birthday, which my very smart husband read on her web-page and remembered. He brought one of the copies of FIRST DEATH in the trade edition for her. It was one of the first things that had his name on it, as a writer, and he especially wanted her to… Read More

The Weekend was Wonderful
It was a good weekend. Jonathon and I both feel more relaxed, renewed, even. It was a very social weekend, which isn’t always restful, but this one was. Made new friends, visited new places, ate at new restaurants, and just finally let go of all that stress that had been riding us for weeks. I’ll give more details later, maybe, but right now, let’s just say that part of what I’m having to learn is what refreshes me. What helps my muse and me, feel like playing again? This weekend helped me figure some of that out. Monday, as I’d… Read More

Skin Trade
SKIN TRADE is safely in my editor and copy editor’s hands. Normally, even after a book goes off I still make notes on other projects. I’m always doing something. Not this time. I’m done. I feel like a shell washed up on the beach; empty and spent. There is no one home for a few days. A beach and an island doesn’t sound bad. Somewhere I could simply stare off into the ocean and not think. Jon and I are leaving town for a long weekend. Not beaches, but somewhere else. No, I’m not going to tell you where, and… Read More

Beyond Midnight
Done. My hands are cramping from typing. But, I’m done. It’s done. I’m going to bed now.

Another Midnight
Not done, not done, not done. F***ck! Over nine hundred pages and not done. I’ve sent over eight hundred pages to New York, to my editor. It should keep the copy editor busy for awhile, but I’m still working on it. I had this long blog about music that I was going to do, but it’s another midnight, and I’m still working, and I don’t have a long blog in me. Jon’s just helped me count it up. I’ve done 46 brand new pages today, and that’s not counting the number I rewrote. Forty-six pages, and I’m not done. 46… Read More
